I am excited to announce that I have finally locked in dates for the Melbourne workshop and it is now open for registration. The Melbourne workshop will take place on Tuesday 27th & Wednesday 28th January 2015 in a venue in the Docklands area of Melbourne.
It’s a time to help you find your way as a photographer and give you the tools to create a photography business that will ultimately give you much happiness and freedom.
We will cover the topics that I think the most important in taking the steps into getting the right clients for you, which will ultimately make you create better work. Any level of photographer is welcome to book in for the workshop, it does not matter if you are a amateur photographer, just at the very start of your photography career or a professional photographer already and want to refine your focus and overhaul your business.
Over the two day workshop, we will covering :/em>
– Your portfolio is your overall presentation of your work, from your website and blog to what you showcase on social media. We will cover what to showcase on our portfolios – how to have a clear voice so you attract the right clients.
– Discussing the mistakes we make when we become too emotionally attached to our own work and start to look at our work more objectively.
– Identify the weaknesses in our work. We will be discussing common problem areas – from lens selection, bad lighting and selecting the right images to keep.
– Finding a strong consistent editing look to finish your photographs
– Learn how other people are perceiving your work. Is your portfolio attracting the right clients you want to work with?
– Building a strong price list
– Client meetings and client expectations – getting the clients you love
– Workflow – from booking a client to order fulfillment
– Displaying and sharing your images, album design and image presentation
– Marketing yourself – getting your work published and noticed.
– Legal stuff – contracts, model releases, copyright, image licensing
– Creating a step by step plan to strengthen your portfolio / blog / website.
– Strategies to take home and implement in the future.
– Creating accountability to getting your action plan for improvement complete.
– Questions – You can ask whatever questions you like – i’m an open book :)
Each attendee will receive a letter from Samm at the beginning of the class outlining the areas she thinks they should work on to strengthen their portfolio.
How much does it cost to attend?
The ticket price is $1200 USD per person for the two day workshop, which includes your seat at the workshop, food, drinks, snacks and a bag of goods. You are responsible for making your way to & from the workshop each day.
Whats the times for each day?
The workshop goes from 10am – 6pm each day. Even though the formal teaching ends at 6pm, you have the option to join us for dinner & drinks after each evening.
What to bring?
Your laptop (not absolutely essential but preferred), hard drives of complete weddings, your pricing, anything you show to clients.
Lunch, snacks and drinks throughout the day and a bag of goods :)
How to book in?
A 50% retainer is due immediately in order to book your seat – the remainder 50% is due on the 5th January 2015. A final invoice will be sent out to you at this time.
If you purchase a seat and find you are in a position you are no longer able to attend, there are no refunds, but you are welcome to sell your seat to another person.

Who’s Samm Blake?
Samm Blake originates from a fine art photography background, having studied Photomedia and Journalism at Edith Cowan University. She began her photographic career with her social documentary work predominately exploring issues with isolation and Australian culture. Her personal work has been featured in exhibitions across Australia and internationally. At the same time, she developed a special niche in the wedding industry, photographing couples with a distinct fine art background. She has run her successful wedding business full time since 2007, and shortly thereafter was named as one of Australia’s Top Ten Wedding Photographers by Capture Magazine in 2009 and 2010. American Photo Magazine named Samm one of the top 10 wedding photographers in the world in 2013. Samm migrated to the USA in 2013 and now calls New York home, working from Greenpoint in Brooklyn and now documents primary destination weddings all of the world. Samm also operates a successful photography agency in Australia called Yeah! Weddings, where she manages & mentors 5 up-and-coming photographers. An entrepreneur at heart, she enjoys creating and building businesses and is passionate about helping other artists jump into the exciting and scary world of self employment and teaching them to create businesses by playing by their own rules.
